Is Cleanly really free?
Yes. Every feature is free, with no ads and no trial. Tips keep the project going, and they're entirely optional.
What gets deleted for good?
Only things apps rebuild on their own: caches, temp files, logs and update leftovers. Your own files — photos, videos, documents, installers — always go to Trash, so you can put them back.
Does the assistant see my files?
No. When you ask a question, only file names, paths and sizes are sent to the AI you chose — never what's inside the files. The assistant is optional, and it never removes anything without your say.
Do I need an AI account?
Only for the assistant. It works with your own Claude or ChatGPT API key. Everything else in Cleanly works without one.
Does it replace my antivirus?
No. The Protection check looks at the security your system already has — like Microsoft Defender and the firewall on Windows, or XProtect and Gatekeeper on a Mac — and tells you if something is switched off.
Which systems does it run on?
Windows and macOS.
Why does my computer warn me on first launch?
Cleanly isn't code-signed or notarized yet. On Windows, SmartScreen may warn you: click More info, then Run anyway. On a Mac, after dragging Cleanly to Applications, run xattr -cr /Applications/Cleanly.app once in Terminal. The source is open on GitHub.
